For the beginning designs, I went with a standard sci-fi theme of neon holograms and halftones to see if that was the direction we wanted to go with. But after conversing with Asstro, we both decided we wanted something less generic and closer to the brand. So we were back to stage one.

Next, I decided to take another step out. What else creates that sci-fi vibe, but was easily distinguishable? That was the question I toiled with until I had a realization. All of the identifiable sci-fi ships and vehicles have easily recognizable windows! So with that, I came up with a few designs for Asstro to pick from.

In addition to the creation of the windows, I wanted to make sure each of the different panels we created for the channel felt distinct and unique. And with all of the talk of space and sci-fi, I skipped an important aspect of space: Space Phenomenons! And then I began researching and designing different ways to depict black holes, quasars, comets, nebulas, and galaxies.

And this ideation and design led to me creating some of my favorite graphic design pieces to date! And he fell in love with them.

After the panels were settled upon, we moved on to the banners for Asstro's name and the sub-banner as well. We talk about whether or not to have them connected or separate. And we settled on having them separate but with a consistent design. So I took the design from the panels and reformatted it to make the name and subs pop!

I wanted to create a new scene for the inside of the banners so I created something that had the earth in order to tie Asstro to his past persona as Oseandashark. And the final product was right up his alley.

1st Design: Name Banner
2nd Design: Sub Banner

And lastly, in the design process, we put together a list of alerts for the channel. For anyone who doesn't know, alerts are what pop up on a stream when someone donates, subscribes, or follows. I wanted to tie the three alerts together to have a cohesive design. And I already had the perfect muse. The switch from nautical to sci-fi is just different enough to have three different designs: Underwater, Atmospheric, and Space.

And with all of the work done for the panels, banners, and alerts, the project came to a close. Being able to work with someone so interesting and sure of what they wanted was a nice change of pace. And I loved the direction we took for the designs. I can't wait to do more work with Asstro and I wish him well in his streaming endeavors.
